Good News For Our Communities
This month, several organizations from the 43rd District have been awarded state grants that I was able to secure on their behalf. We all know the value of the services provided by the Boys & Girls Club, Community Crisis Center, Senior Services, AID and PADS. Each of these organizations has received their award and each has already put it to good use.
There is more good news to come as we await the release of other grants. We'll keep you updated. To learn about some of the projects funded to-date, please see the press release section of my website on Friday, or, read a short summary below:

Vehicle Emissions Testing Available in Elgin
Earlier this year, the Illinois EPA made adjustments to the vehicle emissions testing network which resulted in the addition of new testing stations but also the closure of certain locations. Unfortunately, the nearest full-service station, located in South Elgin, was one of those closures. This closure required those of us living in this area to drive to Crystal Lake or Schaumburg to have our vehicles tested.
That is until recently. There is now an "Appointment Only" test location in Elgin at the Tyler Creek Plaza. Vehicle model years 1996 or newer are supported by this test facility and owners must call 877-927-7587 ahead of time to schedule an appointment. As in the past, the vehicle emission test is free of charge. Additional information about the vehicle emissions test program and other testing locations may be found at: http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/

High Tech Meets Old-Fashion Town Hall Meeting
Tonight, Rep. Tim Schmitz and I are testing out a new way of listening to what constituents have to say. It's called a "tele-town hall meeting" and it is designed to accommodate the participation of hundreds of individuals, at the same time, in a virtual town-hall meeting; and get this, it's all done through their own telephones.
Individuals can participate in a discussion, ask a question or just listen-in without saying anything. We will also be posing questions on various issues and asking for feedback. Those who would like to share their opinion simply indicate their position by pressing the corresponding keys on their telephone.
I'll let you know how it works. And, if you happen to participate, let me know what you think. If you like the concept, we'll add it to our other methods of constituent outreach that now includes, coffees, the website, resource fairs, roundtables, advisory councils, traditional newsletters, and of course this email newsletter.
