Elgin, IL … State Representative Ruth Munson (R-Elgin) announced today that a $90,000 state grant has been awarded to the Community Crisis Center in Elgin.
“The Community Crisis Center does a remarkable job providing much needed services to victims of domestic violence and they do it with very limited resources,” said Munson. “I am thrilled to have been able to secure these funds for them. I know that every penny will be leveraged to ensure that women and children get the services they need to be safe from abuse.”
The Community Crisis Center has helped those in crisis situations since 1975, through a 24-hour crisis hotline; counseling; medical, legal and welfare advocacy; financial emergency assistance for food, clothing, rent and utilities; along with transitional housing. Most services are provided free of charge.
Executive Director Gretchen Vapnar said the money will be used to support the programs offered through the crisis center, pay off a portion of the mortgage for the shelter, and update technology used by the volunteers and employees.
“We very much appreciate the efforts of State Representative Ruth Munson to help victims of abuse,” said Vapnar. “The state grant literally could not have come at a better time. We depend on financial support from not only the state, but also through donations from generous individuals, businesses and foundations alike to help us fulfill the needs of those suffering from abuse who are trying to make a better life for themselves.”
