Elgin, IL … State Representative Ruth Munson has secured more than $87,000 in state grants to help the Village of Carpentersville keep families safe, provide positive alternatives for youth, and combat gang activity.
“Public safety has been a major concern of many residents in Carpentersville,” said Rep. Munson. “I worked with village staff and community leaders to identify projects that would provide real solutions.”
This state grant funding includes youth-based initiatives and a street lighting program designed to light-up high crime areas in an effort to deter violence and vandalism. The Village of Carpentersville has already, or will soon receive the following funds in the next few weeks:
- $40,000 for street lighting in high crime areas.
- $32,000 to the Carpentersville Police Department for gang prevention
and intervention programs.
- $15,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Dundee for the Perry Elementary
after-school program.
“Our efforts at Perry Elementary are working,” commented Tom Mammoser, President of the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee. “Thanks to Rep. Munson, we will be able to reach even more kids and help them achieve success in life. We’re seeing our alumni now giving back to the community, graduating from college and even attending law school.”
Rep. Munson plans to continue working in the community to devise alternatives for youth and to strengthen local anti-gang and violence programs.
“I remain committed to keeping kids safe and away from gangs,” said Munson. “This funding will help local organizations provide much needed youth programs and increase safety in our neighborhoods.”
